Good on ya Australia for finding these online and making a fuss!!
Contrary to Tourism Australia's Statements; There was no food, no water present. The kangaroo (Fesnick) was used for more than 4 hours, the lack of water, and food etc is all viewable in the videos. (fyi: This is the same kangaroo used by Tourism Australia a couple of years ago at Santa Monica College - where he was pulled around on a leash- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VwslsmgrR-8&feature=related) The Humane Society (USA) has said they NEVER approved of the exhibit, NOR have they ever commented positively about it. Fesnick's handler says he follows the Humane Society's guidelines in handling Fesnick. This is where the false assumptions that this exhibit was approved by The Humane Society came from.
-also note: The Dept of Tourism still officially denies any wrong doing by TA.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++BACKSTORY: Tourism Australia and all the appropriate reps were contacted the first day Fesnick the Kangaroo was seen on Beverly Drive.
By noon the next day there was no response.
Later that day Fesnick was taped and photographed on phone & Blackberry and these files were emailed to Tourism Australia. Hours Later - Still no response so they were uploaded to Youtube.
Later the following evening a letter was received from Tourism Australia, which included false claims contradicting what can clearly be seen in the videos and the 42 photos taken.
So the videos stayed up in the hopes it may help Fesnick (who is also on Youtube being unhappily led around Santa Monica College last year, also c/o T.A.) and other animals from being blatantly mistreated and used.
Note for the non-animal lovers, also for the 'business minded': The terrible impression of not just Australia, but all of Australasia that 'exhibits' like give the rest of the world is another valid reason to stop such cruelty.

This was the official response I received the day after I'd sent all photos and video to Tourism Australia. As you can see in the videos, their claims about the pen/cage enclosure are completely untrue. If all was ok, why the need to lie?

"Jan 18th, 2010 8:32 PM PST Subject: RE: animal cruelty by tourism australia Dear Kylie Thank you for your email and for your concern about the kangaroo used at our event in Beverly Hills over the weekend. Having spoken to our team in Los Angeles we have established the following facts: The enclosure for the kangaroo was 10 feet by 10 feet and had a shade covering and a sawdust base. Two handlers, water and pooper scooper were in use all day. The enclosure had only one side accessible to the public. The kangaroo in question was supplied by one of the most reputable animal handlers in the US. We have worked with this company for many years as they are held in high regard by the American Humane Association and follow all appropriate health and safety procedures. We have also looked at photos of the enclosure and of the Kangaroo and are satisfied that the animal, which is well used to public exposure and appearances like this, appeared to be in no distress. Tourism Australia takes extremely seriously the welfare of our native animals and we thank you for your concern.
