About Me:

i was born in 1939,and raised in hawaii and I started playing guitar when i was 9 years old. i ruined a lot of records lifting the needle, trying to copy jazz guitarists. in 1953 we moved to southern California.i played nite clubs from 1960 to 1983 six nights a week. Then i got burned out,and quit playing guitar all together for 25 years. i started back playing again recently, about the time i started posting on youtube.although i do read music, most things i've learned worthwhile have been by ear. i don't use scales, arpeggios or modes when i improvise.i just hear the melody in my head and jazz around it.i don't even think about what chord i'm in.i drove everybody nuts scatting jazz along with the radio in the car.please don't ask for lessons on scales or modes since i don't use them.
when i arrange chord solos i don't want to see the music or the chords.i just play the melody by ear on the guitar and stack notes under it that sound pleasant to me.i don't want to be influenced by someone elses chord choice.
i don't expect my friends and subscribers to comment on every video i post.if i get a few views i'm happy :-)

Hi Freddy. I while ago you told me you use Band in a Box for backing your solos. I saved up a while and I bought it and it I really love it. Thanks for the tip. I really like your arrangements of the old standard tunes and I am following your lesson vids. You play the way I always wanted to. Keep on playing, Mr Jazzfingers!

Wow..you are a brain surgeon. You reminds me to House MD. Although his music style is different. Anyway, thanks all the post. I enjoy it.

as I read your profile now I notice we have the same principles namely playing by ear and getting the notes and chords together in our own way

Thanks Freddy for your incredible videos. Like you I quit for 20 years and recently got back into and listening to your performances has been an inspiration. Oh and since your occupation says your a Brain Surgeon....lol could you perform surgery on me so that I can play as well as you....haha.
Thanks again,
TommyJ from Ontario, Canada
