Our good friend, LonelyDonut, has produced a HD (that's Hi Res!) version of the boot animation for CM9. You probably noticed that the supplied boot animation does not fill the screen correctly due to it's wonky resolution. LonelyDonut has fixed that! Just download the file from Rootzwiki.com, rename it to bootanimation.zip, and throw it into your /system/media folder. It will replace the current one, so if you want to keep it (I didn't), be sure to make a backup of that file somewhere.
