This account is dedicated to my father, who back in 1986 and 1987 unknowingly did what you see here today: record TV shows on videotapes without cutting out the commercials, which are quite valuable today.

dadsoldtapes has its origins back in mid-2004 when, after seeing samples of TV commercials from a time before I was born, I had the idea that perhaps my Dad had recorded such commercials from his tapings back in the day. Sure enough, after going through VHS tapes of shows he recorded, I found commercials from TV shows recorded all the way back in 1987.

While I quickly became fascinated by what I had found through these tapes, I had yet to figure out how I was going to get them digitized. And also, YouTube was still a bit of a ways off, but I had begun on crude ways of making them digital, but by this point had forgotten about them.

A few years later, in March 2008, I was getting ready to set up a business I would run as a summer job of transferring old VHS tapes to DVD through a converter unit that I purchased, and with this new avenue of mine I would finally get sufficient-quality versions of what my Dad recorded on those tapes onto YouTube, and in time I would discover more notable footage from what he had, as well as from many others whose tapes I was able to come in contact with in my work.
