MobileChronicles was born in February 2005 in the shape of an artistic, documentary weblog, where photographs taken with camera phones were registered, displaying a unique view of Buenos Aires. The weblog would allow people to post comments about the pictures and consecuently establish contact with the author.
In June 2005, technologically supported by Nokia, MobileChronicles was able to improve the quality of its registers and to achieve a photographic definition in phone-taken pictures which is unprecedented in Latin America. This is how MobileChronicles, with more than 3000 pictures in its archive, has become one of the most prominent weblogs in the blogger community.
During the London bombings in 2005, within an atmosphere of censorship and silence, the weblog became a space for self expression for all those people who were registering pictures of the tragedy with their camera phones. Immediately afterwards, the most important networks and media in the world were getting the news from the weblog.
That made us think we had ran across a brand-new journalistic experience: anybody in the world who owns a mobile phone is a mobile reporter.
