one shot juggling
videos made under the following rules:
1. Everything occurs in one take. No editing.
2. Filmmaking should be transparent and self-conscious
a. Juggler should obviously have started or ended the recording.
b. Natural sound. Music allowed, but only as it is captured by the
camera.
c. No title screens. Avoid video effects.
d. Instill an attitude of "Yes, I am making a juggling film--in one
take."
3. Framing is pre-planned and should not depend on a camera operator
following the juggling action.
4. Films emphasize location and are conscious of mise en scene (the
arrangement of objects in the frame).
5. Films include elements of risk and a high probability for incidental
occurences. Drops are OK.
6. Film length is not rule-bound but should not detract from spontaneity.
7. After five attempts, move to a new location, framing, or series.
Addendum
I. Preferrably filmmed on commercial digital cameras.
II. Bonus points for films including driving.
III. Posting notes about the making of one shot juggling videos is
encouraged, including, but not limited to: notes on how many takes the
film required, how the filmmaking process affected the juggling, and
incidental pleasures encountered.
Entropy
Entropy (Will Oltman & Tony Gonzalez) became enamored with Windows Movie Maker in 2004, just five years after becoming enamored with juggling. In one short period, the juggling duo managed to use every video editing effect known to Windows Movie Maker while producing a DVD that sold a remarkable four copies (but it had awesome low-fi, hand-stamped and hand-printed packaging (seriously)).
