South African workers down tools in nationwide strike
Tens of thousands of South African workers downed tools on Wednesday and joined marches by the Congress of South African Trade Unions to demand a ban on labour broking and road tolls. The industrial action has deeply divided public opinion as shops closed and public services had to be scaled back. Some believe it is costing the economy huge amounts of money, when the issues could be settled through dialogue. Supporters, however, are adamant that labour broking is tantamount to human trafficking, undermining workers' rights, and that road tolls affect the poor disproportionately. Julius Malema, the charismatic former president of the Youth League of the African National Congress, also appeared amid the crowd in Johannesburg rallying supporters.
Super Tuesday results declared in a selection of states
The results from the 'Super Tuesday' polls are coming in hard and fast, with some surprising results emerging. Newt Gingrich has taken his home state of Georgia as predicted, but Ohio remains too close to call between Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum. Indeed, Santorum is performing beyond expectation, and could end the night with as many as four state wins - which would be considered a bad result for Mitt Romney. Ron Paul has also remained defiant as results have come in, so it seems certain that all four candidates will battle on right up to the GOP convention.
Voters go to the polls on Super Tuesday
Two months into the Republican primary race, voters in ten states - from Alaska to Georgia - have gone to the polls in the potentially pivotal 'Super Tuesday' vote, which may see Mitt Romney close in on the party's presidential nomination. However, his opponents Newt Gingrich, Rick Santorum, and even Ron Paul, are in with a fighting chance of taking some significant victories that will allow their campaigns to continue. In this playlist, we look at the voting process from ground level.

Other recent meetings organised by AIPAC have been disrupted by the Occupy AIPAC movement, on fears that America could be drawn into a war on Iran. GOP presidental candidates Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum and Newt Gingrich have also weighed in on the subject of potential attacks on Iran.

Romney wins in Washington
GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney racked up another state win on Saturday night, proving the 'frontrunner' is gathering so-called #mittmentum. He took 36 percent of the vote in the poll taking him one step closer to winning the nomination. Second place was more closely contested with main rival US Senator Rick Santorum, taking 24.4 percent of the vote but that only earned him third place behind Ron Paul on 25 percent, while former House Speaker Newt Gingrich could only muster 11 per cent to slip into fourth place. A clearer picture will emerge this coming 'Super Tuesday' when 10 states will declare their votes.

All eyes on Washington State caucus
On Saturday, Washington state holds its caucus, marking the last chance for candidates to claim a victory heading into Super Tuesday on March 6. Washington is proceeding with its voting contests differently this year, opting to hold only a caucus, which will be run by the state Republican party rather than the state government - and the caucus is open to all registered voters. Meanwhile, Ohio has become the main focus of campaigning for the Super Tuesday push, with Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum already campaigning in the State, with Newt Gingrich and Ron Paul also making last ditch attempts to win a primary.
