Charles Ross Rayner passed away on December 29th, at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, California. This is His obituary.
Charles Ross Rayner, 76, died December 29th, 2009 at Valley Presbyterian Hospital in Van Nuys, California due to complications from COPD and pneumonia.
Charlie was born on March 30th, 1933 and, at age six, was adopted by his maternal grandparents Charles and Harriet Rayner. He spent the majority of his life in Goodrich, Michigan but was stationed in Germany and France when he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He married Betty Jean Burdick in 1960 and they had their only son Michael on January 31st, 1963. In 1968 Charles and Betty helped foster a daughter, Diana Lintner, who later became Mrs. Jerry Hartman. Charlie was a devoted husband who helped Betty Jean through a long time fight with diabetes until she preceded him in death in 2001.
He worked as a foreman at the AC Delco plant in Flint, Michigan for 45 years, retiring in 1998. He was proud of his accomplishments, but happier still with the many friends he made there. He was an avid gardener who enjoyed growing a multitude of vegetables. He loved to play the daily lotto numbers and took great pleasure in playing his hand at the casinos, where he somehow always walked away a winner. He will especially be remembered for his quick wit and ability to make everyone smile, and his generosity both to family and community. In particular he was always quick to pick up the check when dining out- one of his favorite things to do- and if he truly did have a last wish it would be to take someone you love out to breakfast. He loved going out for breakfast!
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Michael and Moira and granddaughters Millie and Maebel; Diana and Jerry Hartman and their children Melissa, Serena, Jeremy and Tiffany; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Ginger and Dan Wright and their children, Katrina, Jeff and Steven; and his siblings Bill King, David King and Shirley Diederich and their families.
