About Me:

I'm an amateur organist who strictly plays for 'fun'. I play for my own entertainment since I've never studied piano or organ. So in other words, I don't take myself too seriously, I'm just having fun. I grew up in NYC, and I come from a musical family. My dad was a well respected jazz pianist in NYC, who went to the Manhattan School of Music. At the age of eight along with my older brother, our dad had us join the men and boys choir of The Church Of The Transfiguration "The Little Church Around The Corner" (the actors church) in New York City, which was then and still is a famous men/boys choir (our youngest brother joined us there when he became old enough). It was there that I discovered the organ, hymns, and of course choral music.

While in that choir with my older and younger brothers, we got to perform with Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, The Berkshire Boys Choir, I performed in Leonard Berstein's Mass, A small number of us boys from the choir performed a scene with Ali McGraw in the movie 'Love Story', we were featured on a sound track for the movie 'Child's Play', and performed with Pro-Musica in the play of Daniel and Herod.

Our organist/choir master Dr. Stuart Gardner in addition to always allowing me to play the organ at the church (3 man/50 rank Austin), he tried twice to give me piano lessons after my dad tried many times at home (I refused my dad's offerings to teach me thinking that he'd teach me jazz piano). I simply wanted to improvise and wasn't (foolishly) interested in studying, practicing scales etc. That to me seemed boring and tedious, improvisation was much more fun and interesting.

Fast forward to today (the year 2010), and I now fully understand the errors of my musical ways! Had I studied (ESPECIALLY jazz piano with my dad), I would be a real and far better musician/organist and not be so restricted by my current inabilities. But thus far, I'm still breathing air and life isn't over. So before I finally 'checkout', it's my complete intention to study organ, learn how to read music completely instead of just the treble clef only as I'm currently restricted to, and be able to play all of the great music that's been written specifically for this King of Instruments.

Yes Pete, I'm more than convinced about Hauptwerk. How expensive is it? I'm sure that it'll be out of my range....

You lifted me up this morning, Mark - thank you - it's been a long time since I felt THAT kind of power flow. Probably the only thing I miss about "church" is the beautiful music - thank you for being so passionate and talented. - Court
