About Me:
And hold a Certificate in Community Support Work.
I am a single mum of one 16 year old boy. Who is in Year 11-VCE + VCAL in High School.
He is now taller than me!
I had a surgery 'opps' 9 years ago on the 5th of Feb 2002 that left me with a oesphagus that is so unco-ordinated it's useless. As it can't push food or fluids along. In most people this is called Achalasia. BUT I DON'T have the true form of this condition as my Achalasia was caused by surgery.
Food and fluids don't automatically enter my stomach any more. I 'manually' move them in when the pressure builds up.
My stomach is now not digesting either. Called Gastroparesis.
I have lost my ability to vomit as my stomach doesn't open anymore. That DOESN'T MEAN I NEVER GET SICK! In fact it's the opposite. I suffer major nausea all the time. My body tries to vomit, but can not. Causing pain and bleeding. A simple case of Gastro has sent me to hospital for 5 weeks! So as soon as someone say's they have had Gastro I avoid them like the plague and go into a full on panic. Who could blame me?
I have lost over 55kg's or 110 lb's because of this. At least I won't ever be fat again!
I have to make jokes about this as I am sick to death of crying all the time, asking "Why me?" "Why me?" Why me?"
I also have an Oesphageal Dilitation by balloon done every 2 months, with a 3 day hospital stay, to help me with eating, drinking and pain.
That's MORE pain meds too. Because it causes my oesphagus to go into major spasm for around 3 weeks afterwards. But I ONLY have the pain killers in hospital.
And to make another joke. It's not all bad having this done every 2 months for the rest of my life. At least this way I get 3 day's every few months to just lay in bed. Watch TV and be served whenever I ring the bell without my son annoying me!
I have had 2 PEG tubes (Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastronomy) inserted to maintain my nutrition.
There is nothing more they can do for me. Only these helping methods.
Eventually they will try a FULL transplant from a donor of an oesphagus, stomach, small & large intestines.
Very scary & major, major surgery. With a long & extensive recovery. Also the chance of failure & rejection.
And all I had was a hernia repair and anti-reflux operation. NOT WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY.
Consequently, because of the oesphagus not being able to move properly, it goes into almost constant spasm.
It's like having a major heart attack 24/7.
For this I was on many, many, many pain killers that were ruining my life. I even lost custody, tempararily, of my son 5 years ago to a very nasty, lying, crocked DHS worker. Because of Myrene's lies. My pain. And those horrible pain killers.
I was on massive amounts to try and get on top of my pain. Like 300mg of Morphine and 50mg of Valium a day! And it still didn't cover the pain. Sending me to the hospital every few days for better pain control. Only IV Morphine and Medazalam, a powerful muscle relaxant, would work.
That was until I had a Neurostimulator implanted by the most wonderful Neurosurgeon ever to be put on this planet. Dr Barry Rawicki. My saviour.

I now hate pain killers and endure withdrawls after every hospital admission.
I also run a support group of Facebook for Achalasia & Gastroparesis Suffers & their families.
So come on and join. Or just find out some more about this extremely rare disease.
