In 1986, Katie radically and spontaneously awakened without spiritual practices or teachers. In fact, she had no intellectual whatsoever for what had occurred until she met her future husband, Sundance Burke, who had similarly awakened in 1982 with his first two teachers, Satoshi (Osho) and Sunyata, named the Rare Born Mystic by his friend Ramana Maharshi.Sundance and Katie spent many, many years integrating this profound spiritual realization.

In 1998, they became close friends with Eckhart Tolle and were invited to travel with him for two months on his first Power of Now tour. Subsequently, Katie worked in his offices in Vancouver BC. Eckhart encouraged Sundance and Katie to begin sharing Eckhart's teachings and they soon were traveling the West Coast with their message and offering Advaita satsang.

In 2004, Eckhart encouraged them to write their books and they moved to Maui, Hawaii. Their books were written with their desks side by side with the natural wonders of Maui and the Pacific Ocean before them. Upon completion, they discovered that their books ended with the same number of pages. While each book stands alone, people have shared that they are a beautiful complement to one another.
