In 1986, Katie radically and spontaneously awakened without spiritual practices or teachers. In fact, she had no intellectual reference whatsoever for what had occurred.

In 1988, she met her future husband, Sundance Burke, who had similarly awakened in 1982 with Satoshi (Osho) and Shunyata, named the Rare Born Mystic by his friend Ramana Maharshi.

In 1998, they became close friends with Eckhart Tolle and were invited to travel with him for two months on his first Power of Now tour. Subsequently, Eckhart encouraged Sundance and Katie to teach and they soon were traveling the West Coast.

Eckhart Tolle encouraged them to write their books and they moved to Maui, Hawaii. Their books were written with their desks side by side with the natural wonders of Maui and the Pacific Ocean before them.
