Actually this was Tom's 4th solo album. Much better production sound than on his first album. Some of his songs sound a little under-written, like he just writes verses and choruses and doesn't bother with bridges (or "middle 8's), but I'd say this album deserved to be a hit, or at least chart (which it didn't).
Top tune! Hope that fish was alright.
I was at this show, actually there to see a different band my friend was in who was playing after them, but Dead Sara mopped the floor with them! On their album, this is my favorite song. Great stuff.
I love "At My Window"! The part near the end on the final "came to my window" when the group vocals swell is a great moment. And Bruce sings it well. Brian doesn't sing french so much as haltingly speak the words, which is certainly different. Definitely a high point on an album with tons of them!
The song that closes this episode is pretty strange, even more so that its the only bit in the entire series that isn't played for laughs. I think the guys from Squeeze wrote it.
Very similar to the album version, though with a fretless bass, and no backup vocals, which I prefer. I'd love to hear more demos from the first 2 albums!
They sell the DVD for this movie on the official Ed Sullivan website. A bit random, but true!
This is actually The Orchestra, formerly ELO Part II (since they can't use the name anymore). Nice to see they can still play big gigs like this now and then.
Thanks for posting these rare RP songs. I'd never heard this one, it sounds great. I like this better than most of what's on the R & B album!
Finally! This is a must.
Pretty, and depressing. Pretty depressing! But thanks for posting, I really like "I'll Never Forget You". I wonder if these b-sides are outtakes from his unreleased 2nd solo album?
