سامي الشوا (1889-1965) صاحب الإسلوب المتميز في العزف على الكمان, ولد في القاهرة ثم عادت اسرته الى موطنها الاصلي حلب و هو ما زال طفلا لكنه عاد الى القاهرة عام 1904, و كان عمره 15 عاما, ليدرس الموسيقا و يبدأ العمل مع فرقة الحويحي ثم فرقة إبراهيم القباني. عزف مع كبار المطربين أمثال يوسف المنيلاوي و عبد الحي حلمي و غيرهم. بدأ تسجيل الإسطوانات مبكرا عام 1906 و تكاد لا تخلو إسطوانة, من تسجيلات العشرينات و بداية الثلاثينات, من صوت كمانه. الى جانب موهبته في العزف كان ذو معرفة كبيرة بالموسيقا الشرقية و المقامات و له مؤلفات منها "قواعد الموسيقا الشرقية و الغربية" و "طرق تعلم الكمان الشرقي", كما أسس مع منصور عوض مدرسة لتعليم الموسيقا العربية الشرقية عام 1907. قام بتلحين بعض الاناشيد وبتأليف قطع موسيقية و له تجارب في الموسيقا التصويرية
