Update regarding ASUS router not displaying ports.
also a bit of a lesson in this one too. "The simplest which are usually over looked, should not be underestimated. :)

For all whome are experiance the ports not showing, please ensure the ports are active (doing something sending or receiving traffic) when you run your port scanner. and to everyone, i put my hand up and apologize that i did not think of this earlier,

Kind Regards

Just a quick update regarding the Asus RT-N56U ports not showing as open issue, After having a chat with some of my networking colleagues, and a bit of research, it seems that the Asus router has a built in ability to "stealth" ports, From my readings this may be directly related to the built in firewall. I have not yet had the ability to test this in person, but promise I'll get on it soon and keep you all posted. Off the top of my head, anybody who wishes to jump to it could start by disabling the Asus firewall and id also recommend for the test any other firewalls you may have on. Do a reboot and then start scanning your ports again. As always I would ask that you send me a quick mail with your findings.

Just a note to all you ASUS RT-N56U / ASUS ROUTER people, Im still trying to figure out whats up with the operational changes since that new firmware, There seems to be an issue with ports getting an open status even when there opened. Just on that note id like to add that when you open a port, run a scanner, it says closed but the port actully operates as open. Tested with a bit torrent client and can state it works regardless of what other 3rd party softwares state, still trying to figure out why tho. Naturally if anybody has input please dont be shy.

The newest firmware for the RT-N56U has done away with the Virtual Server and now correctly call it Port Forwarding (under WAN). I'm trying to forward 11000 through 13000 for passive FTP. Don't you enter a port range all under "Port Range" however? e.g., 11000:13000? Or do you still enter it as 11000 under port range, and 13000 under Local port. That seems odd. With my old Linksys, I just entered in 11000 in one box, 13000 in the next box, with the two boxes separated by the word 'to'. Made more sense.
Have you tried the latest firmware? (it's v 1.0.1.7f)

Hello Asid, many thanks for your helpful videos on the Asus RT-N56U router!

I have searched the router manual and Google but I cant find any information on the following.

I have forwarded ports for Nero MediaHome but it doesnt work (whereas it did with my previous DLink router). My TV and phone can see Nero MediaHome but cannot connect to the server. I have tried TVersity and forwarded ports and straight away the TV and phone picked that up, so my first question is: does this router not support Nero MediaHome 4? In your opinion what is the best Media Server to use?

Secondly, Which MAC filter should I use? I used to have MAC filtering on my previous DLink router. On the Asus, there is 1) Wireless - wireless MAC filter (5 Ghz). 2) Wireless - wireless MAC filter (2.4 Ghz). 3) Mac Filter - (Under Firewall)

Which MAC filter should I use? Any information would be greatly appreciated.
