'Awash with the RNLI' - Paul Taggart's Fund-Raising Project
'Awash with the RNLI' is a long-term, fund-raising project by Paul Taggart and his Life & Business Partner Eileen Tunnell -- commenced in the Autumn of 2011. CENTRAL TO THE PROJECT will be a growing collection of original paintings from which are published Limited Edition Prints, each edition being set aside exclusively to raise funds for the RNLI in Scotland. From each large print sold the RNLI Scotland will receive no less than £80 per print : with a sliding scale upwards or downwards, dependent on the size of the print. THE SUBJECT of each 'narrative' painting will be prompted by a back-story unique to any one particular lifeboat station or its environs and community. As such the collection will vary in nature and in media. ADDITIONAL FUND-RAISING events and projects will emanate from various activities; such as public launches and showings of the various paintings and prints. LIVE PAINTING by PAUL TAGGART -- during various RNLI and other fund-raising events in which Paul Taggart will participate with the aim of completing an on-the-spot painting for donating to the RNLI for fund-raising purposes; such as raffles and auctions. DOCUMENTARY-STYLE FILMS will also be produced, to capture each painting, project and event as it unfolds -- which will be shared on-line through Paul Taggart's various websites, free-to-view webshows and channels (You Tube etc).
"Spirit of the Highlands" Collection by Paul Taggart
Spirit of the Highlands collection of paintings by Artist & Author Paul Taggart
Traditional techniques form the basis of my particular method and process of working, which I maximise and manipulate to achieve the effect of light the signature feature that is present in every piece.
Spirit of the Highlands is a collection of paintings that celebrate the unique light that is ever-present in the Northern Highlands of Scotland, the home of myself and my life and business partner Eileen.
I am particularly partial to oil painting, for there is nothing to surpass the sheer richness of this medium and the process. It is about painting in layers to create depth and using the inherent textures in a brushstroke. In oil painting we have a medium that can be opaque or transparent; thick or thin in its application, where the surface of the painting, being physical, affects the light falling on it.
The method of working from dark to light, building from initial dark layers through to the tiniest ticks of pure white highlights is combined with the use of traditional techniques such as glazing and tinting (as per the Old Masters). Enriching and enhancing the surface quality of oil paint is the process I employ extensively to achieve the quality I seek.

Heritage Techniques
The craft of my painting owes everything to a repertoire of processes rooted in an established heritage of traditional methods. Without the specialist knowledge passed down from artists through the centuries, it would not be possible for me to work in the style that I have carefully nurtured and developed over my professional life as an artist. It is a method that requires an unhurried approach, with each oil painting built layer upon layer, to capture the very heart of the subject.
I use a complex range of bold and subtle heritage techniques to create depth, in order to produce a seemingly three-dimensional space filled with light, space, mood and movement.
My goal - to capture the very essence of a moment in time one that will evoke a memory, or an emotional reaction.
Heritage Subjects
The subjects for this Heritage Collection owe everything to those who seek to keep their traditions and customs alive and sustained wherever possible. Those whose working and social lives are rooted in the legacy of their birthright be it through music & dancing, history & storytelling, farming & crofting, literature & poetry, fishing & shooting wherever a boundless enthusiasm exists for.
