Boise State's Library was established in its present location in 1963. In 1995, J. A. and Kathryn Albertson and Albertsons, Inc. donated six million dollars to enlarge and remodel the library. In gratitude for this gift, the Library was renamed The Albertsons Library.

Today the Library contains over 540,000 books, about 100,000 maps, nearly 400,000 state and federal government documents, about 1½ million microforms, over 23,000 periodicals, 80 computer stations, and several thousand non-print items, including rapidly growing collections of audiovisual materials (VHS/DVD & music CDs) and over 230+ research databases. The Library also subscribes to several thousand periodicals, both in print and electronically.
