Although Adrina Thorpe may be best known for her writing and vocals on the international trance hit "Who Will Find Me" (2007, DJ Shah feat Adrina Thorpe, Armada Records) and "Back to You (2008, DJ Shah feat Adrina Thorpe) both made popular by inclusion on Armin Van Buuren's ASOT albums, Adrina' musical groundings stem from her love of contemplative alternative indie pop.
Singer/songwriter/pianist Adrina Thorpe released her much-anticipated sophomore album, Halflight & Shadows, on June 30, 2009. Halflight & Shadows illuminates the eternal struggle of light against the darkness and the yearning that each of us faces everyday, the quest for a beautiful life. Adrina Thorpe's style reflects the softer side of music, with a haunting voice and a delicate touch at the piano.
Emptiness inspires me. Silence beckons me, thrills me, fills me with ideas. I love to write. It's a passion I've had since I was very little. Melodies are all little miracles, and the perfect arrangements are like discovering heaven. I hope I can contribute beauty to the silence of the air, confides Southern California native Thorpe.
The recording of Halflight & Shadows was the product of a transatlantic collaboration as classically-trained Thorpe enlisted the help of some of her close musician friends, including Tuscany, Italy-based producer Filippo Gaetani (My Excellence, Ken Andrews), drummer Randy Cooke (Mick Jagger, Ringo Starr, Five for Fighting), cellist Dave Takahashi (Sheryl Crow, Sting, Kanye West), violinist Chris Woods (Justin Timberlake, Jessica Simpson) and drummer Fernando Sanchez (Luis Fonsi, Charlotte Martin). Eagerly anticipated, Halflight & Shadows became a fan-funded album as individuals around the globe enthusiastically donated to help fund its production.
Since releasing her debut album Elusive, Thorpe has gained a considerable following and earned continued success. Many tracks from Elusive were featured on TV networks CW and Lifetime, as well as in several independent films. Who Will Find Me, the joint effort of Thorpe and DJ Shah, became a massive hit, even winning over the worlds number one DJ, Armin Van Buuren, who spun the song for crowds of more than 30,000 and claimed it to be his favorite song of the last two years.
Thorpe uses her unique marriage of pop/rock stylings, classical influence, and folk sentiment to weave narratives of joy within pain and light in the darkness. Her songs are ordered progressively with a hidden "character" who journeys from the darkest brokenness to becoming transformed and swept away by beauty. May these songs take you on a journey, as well.
