The Bigger Picture Play

The Bigger Picture is a collaboration between Youth Speaks and the University of California, San Francisco Center for Vulnerable Populations designed to combat the rising epidemic of Type 2 Diabetes by empowering youth to change the conversation about the disease, and work to change the social and environmental factors that have led to its spread.

We aim to inspire young people to challenge and name the institutional, environmental and social causes of Type 2 Diabetes. It is our hope that by raising their voice, taking action and joining the conversation they will inevitably alter the trajectory of the disease, and provide youth with a virtual platform, and real life performance opportunities for their stories to be heard.

Bringing the Noise for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. '13 Play

Every year, Youth Speaks gathers the community to celebrate the ongoing life and legacy of Dr. King. Our celebration—Bringing the Noise for Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.—is not a reenactment of speeches, a slideshow, or a polite revue of well-honed platitudes. It is a showcase of young people from throughout the Bay Area who have written, in their own voices, original works that grapple with the thoughts and work of the man, who are working to demand—in their own voices, in their lifetimes—huge leaps into possibility, an ongoing commitment to love like a consuming fire. We create a safe space—a beloved community—where our young people can—in the presence of many—give voice to realities that must be understood, embraced, and integrated into our common lives if we are to survive.

Life is Living Play

LIFE is LIVING is a national campaign that uses a new form of green spoken story telling — one that represents the diverse and changing perspectives on what it means to be environmentally just.

This campaign seeks to inspire people to take the value they see in their LIFE, and establish it powerfully as a new voice to define what it means to be logistically and psychologically included in the new, clean and green economies.

Life is worth living, and Living is Green.
