I'd say that's more getting back to its roots. D&D has its origins in wargames. I don't have any miniatures myself. I just borrow, since some of the other players have plenty to spare. If not, I'll probably just use chess pieces or something. As for crafting and performing, I felt that that was good that it was thrown out the window. It's not like they did much for you, and it was so arbitrary. That unless you took ranks in perform, you couldn't sing. That only with ranks in craft were you able to make something, despite paying the full cost for it anyway. Now my paladin's free to sing hymns without making skill checks to see if he's off-key, and I can craft whatever the heck I like (within reason.)

Don't get me wrong I like 4th ed too but they have turned a roleplaying game into a strategy game. where earlier editions you didn't need to use miniatures, 4th ed requires that you use them. And where is the crafting skills? Performing skills? just a comment

sorry, premature post
they have blended myth and fantasy elements more completely into their world; and the strictly iron- and bronze-age european flavor, which was starting to get very worn down, has been expanded to encompass a more global view of material to add into the game |

any entity, no matter its environment, must adapt to new dominant stimuli or stagnate, rot, and die. Those of you denouncing the new edition have not come with an open mind to your studies of the new game. I did the same thing, brushing it off as a fad without actually looking into the game. Having now done so, I understand that the new game, while it's formatting may seem somewhat video-game-esque, is built for speed and ease of learning, set up, and play. On the presentation side of things, they have literally out done themselves. They have blended myth and fantasy elements
