Hi..I am a Permanent Resindence here in the UK but hold a Malaysian Passport, My husband is British, do I still need to apply for a Visa to Visit America? We plan to go in November, is this enough time for me to apply for a visa and how long does the application takes to process? Many thanks.

Hello, I'm studying abroad at the University of Oxford in the U.K. starting at the end of September. I presence doesn't require a visa because I'm a U.S. citizen staying less than 6 months and not working. About a month ago I didn't know a visa wasn't required and I applied for one and was denied because I didn't send the right information. So I'm assuming there's a database somewhere that shows I was denied a visa. If the British officials at the airport give me trouble with this would I be allowed to contact the U.S. Embassy and receive help for the problem? Thanks.

I want to join the United States Coast Guard. But one of the criterias is that "You must be a U.S. citizen or a Resident Alien", I am neither. How would i become either? I sort of have an idea about it but not sure on how to go about it. I am a British citizin but I would not yet be old enough to join the USCG and i wouldnt want to go until i have been to university, so i would not be for another 5 years. But i am really interested in it and would like to know more if i would ever be eligible.

Your best bet is to contact the Internal Revenue Service directly. There's an IRS office in the embassy. You can reach them at 020 7894 0477, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to noon. You can also contact them via e-mail at irs.london@irs.gov. Hope that's helpful! Good luck.

We do not know who the next Ambassador will be. Ambassadors are nominated by the President and confirmed by the Senate. We will know who the new Ambassador is likely to be when the White House announces the intention to nominate someone. To learn more about the transition process in the US Government, I suggest you visit: http://uspolitics.america.gov/uspolitics/government/index.html
