The history and results of appeasement should be discussed. Te word in the 1930's was thought to be a positive one. It was about avoiding another World War. The proponents felt that by giving tyrants like Mussolini and Hitler part of what they wanted, even if it was repellent, was better than the loss of millions of lives.

That was the concept, but in reality the failure to act against Hitler (and earlier against Mussolini in the League of Nations) when his own generals saw him as a madman and were ready to remove him if any of the European powers had simply stood up to him (and without any loss of life), in fact lead to World War II and tens of millions of people killed. Simply saying, "well I'm against all war", is a cop out, and does not truthfully face the consequences of appeasement.

Why should we trust that appeasement will be successful today?
