I started posting videos after two Months of complaints against dangerous drivers, to The Police, with supporting videos, were rejected as having insufficient evidence despite them admitting to not looking at the videos, confused? Me too! The idea for the user name was from being told the Police would have me declared a Vexatious Litigant so they didn't have to follow up my complaints. As it turned out it was much easier than that for them, I was told in a phone call they would do nothing unless a car actually hit me. One Month after being Hospitalised by a UTE that failed to give way to me and it appears even that is in question. Though this may be limited to Henderson Police Station.
If you are still considering a trip to New Zealand, either cycling or in a car, take some time to search New Zealand's road safety statistics, they will confirm my views, despite massive under reporting of Cyclist collisions. Getting to New Zealand takes a lot of time and money, and if you don't feel safe on the roads once you are here there aren't any real alternatives. Before you get on a Plane there are many alternative Countries where the scenery is just as good and the roads much safer, it is meant to be a holiday after all, choose somewhere you can enjoy!
Wait for road safety to improve before booking a trip, quite easy to find online, search "world road deaths by population" or similar.
From NZ Herald "An international body, the International Transport Forum (ITF) has agreed with what I've been banging on about for years - Kiwis are crap drivers. In fact we're worse than that, we're downright dangerous and a menace to anyone who shares the road with us. The ITF report states New Zealand has the seventh-highest ratio of deaths per billion vehicle kilometres travelled and is the ninth highest in deaths per capita.
That puts us up there with Cambodia, Malaysia, South Korea, the Czech Republic, Slovenia and Lithuania. All countries where most of the time you don't need a license to drive" full story at - http://msn.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10676716
