The Foundling Films are a 10-part video story presented as a "Concept Concert" by Mary Gauthier. All the songs from her new concept album were filmed live at Joe's Pub at the Public Theater in NYC on June 16, 2010. Produced by Jack Ballo, The Foundling Films are an Ultravision Production.
About Me:
 
I was born to an unwed mother in 1962 and subsequently surrendered to St. Vincent's Women and Infants Asylum on Magazine Street in New Orleans, where I spent my first year. I was adopted shortly thereafter but left my adoptive family at fifteen. I wandered for years looking for, but never quite finding a place that felt like home. I searched for, found, and was denied a meeting with my birth mother when I was 45 years old. She couldn't afford to re-open the wound she'd carried her whole life, the wound of surrendering a baby. The Foundling is my story.

God bless your heart and soul. i was found in a foster home in 1969(nw ohio) and adopted by a wonderful family...but you're right about the wandering, trying to find a place to fit - still sort of figuring that out.

Most people need to know where they come from in order to make sense of how they belong in this world; I believe that the right to know who your parents are, who your ancestors are, is a fundamental human right, a civil right. However, adoptees are denied access to their own birth certificates in all but 6 states in the US. To that end, I am working for open birth certificates in all 50 states, that we might once and for all put the closed adoption system behind us.
