Life is a just a misery for young librarian Rosie in a forgotten village, devoid of young people.
Endlessly tormented by Mrs. Dustjacket, her wicked and vindictive boss, Rosies days are filled with dusty books and grumpy old people. Love and happiness seem a lifetime away.
But all is not quite what it seems. In the sleepy old library where Rosie works, magic is afoot.
When she first begins to read the fairytale Sleeping Beauty, fantasy and reality merge and Rosie soon finds herself transported back in time to a world of magical forests and fairytale princes.
Meanwhile, in the library, Mrs.Dustjacket conspires to alter the outcome of the story with her evil spells and change the happy ending forever.
Trisha Ward Reviews -
Forget Chess, Phantom of the Opera and even Les Misérables Nightshriek was thought to be the musical triumph of the year. And Ward wrote the music, lyrics and book...
Time Out Awards
Cancel all engagements, beg or even steal a ticket, hammer on the theatre door until they let you in... it is little short of astounding when one learns that the book, music and lyrics of Nightshriek are all the work of Trisha Ward...
The Times
Ward displays an exceptional talent for pace and rhythm producing a fine range of powerful musical numbers.
Time Out
She is tipped as the next Andrew Lloyd Webber and it is easy to see why epic power, pop rhythms for action-packed scenes and slow, sad ballads for tragic scenes... constantly relevant to character and theatrical development.
The Listener
As author, lyricist and composer, Miss Ward knows how to maintain tension between high points...
Too Late Anyway would grace any new musical currently in the West End...
Lady Macbeths belter The Morning Comes should send Elaine Paige scuttling to the recording studio forthwith...
