In June, 2008, after suffering more than a year of physical violence and mental abuse, targeted towards his articles of faith, Jagmohan suffered a violent attack that fractured his left orbital bone. Rather than continue to suffer in silence, Jagmohan partnered with the Coalition to push New York Citys Department of Education to do more to protect Sikh students from harassment. In part, because of Jagmohans courage, in September 2009, the Department of Education announced a new Chancellors Regulation that defines, addresses and tracks incidents of bias-based harassment in NYC schools.
