Her latest recording, Guitar Passions: Sharon Isbin & Friends (Sony), pays tribute to her guitar heroes and includes rock, jazz, and Latin guests Steve Vai, Steve Morse, Nancy Wilson (Heart), Stanley Jordan, Romero Lubambo, Paul Winter, Thiago de Mello and Rosa Passos. She won her second GRAMMY Award for "Best Instrumental Soloist" in 2010 for her Sony CD "Journey to the New World" in which Joan Baez and Mark O'Connor perform as guests. Ranked as a #1 bestselling classical CD on Amazon.com and iTunes, it spent 63 consecutive weeks on the top Billboard charts. She has appeared as soloist with over 160 orchestras, and is the only guitarist to have recorded with the New York Philharmonic. Their disc of concerti by Rodrigo ("Concierto de Aranjuez"), Villa-Lobos and Ponce received a Latin GRAMMY nomination. Winner of Guitar Player magazine's "Best Classical Guitarist" award, her over 25 recordings include "J.S. Bach Complete Lute Suites" prepared with Rosalyn Tureck; "Journey to the Amazon" with guests Paul Winter on sax and Thiago de Mello on percussion; GRAMMY winning CDs "Dreams of a World" and concerti written for her by Tan Dun and Christopher Rouse; "American Landscapes" featuring concerti written for her by Corigliano, Foss and Schwantner; "Baroque Favorites" with the Zurich Chamber Orchestra; and the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese's Academy Award-winning "The Departed". She performed at the White House in 2009 for President Obama, is the creator and director of the guitar department at The Juilliard School, and is the author of "The Classical Guitar Answer Book". She began her guitar studies at nine in Italy, and later studied with Andrès Segovia, Oscar Ghiglia, Alirio Diaz, and Rosalyn Tureck.
