Henry Paulson began his career in the Nixon Pentagon in 1970. He then served as assistant to John Ehrlichman from 1972 to 1973.
*************************
Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson, who recently asked Congress for a $700 billion bailout of Wall Street, had almost no connection whatsoever to the Watergate scandal of the Nixon Administration.
Any attempt to smear Henry Paulson by pointing out that he served in the Nixon Administration in two different capacities is unfair and misleading.
Yes, its true that Henry Paulson was an Assistant to John Ehrlichman from 1972 to 1973. And its true that John Ehrlichman was subsequently convicted of conspiracy, obstruction of justice, and perjury.
And although Henry Paulson worked directly under John Ehrlichman at the height of the Watergate scandal that sent John Ehrlichman to federal prison, Henry Paulson was never accused of any wrongdoing.
That is a simple fact. And just because he was part of the disgraced and corrupt Nixon administration doesnt mean that Henry Paulson is a crook or that he has some sort of cynical greedy Machiavellian design.
Henry Paulson didnt ask for a lot of money to bail out his buddies, hes doing it for you, to clean up this horrible mess that all you irresponsible homeowners have created.
Henry Paulsons experience in the Watergate-era Nixon administration is no reflection at all on his sterling character.
After all, Dick Cheney and Don Rumsfeld were both in the Nixon administration, and they are both honest men of integrity, just like Henry Paulson.
