ABSTRACT
PhotoSketch: A Google SketchUp Plugin for Photo-Centric 3D Modeling
Presented by Prof. George Wolberg Dept. of Computer Science City College of New York
This talk presents the PhotoSketch urban 3D modeling plugin for Google SketchUp. PhotoSketch is designed to make it easy for SketchUp users to build phototextured 3D models of buildings directly from photographs. We simplify the 3D modeling workflow by leveraging the SketchUp push-pull interface with computer vision and photogrammetry techniques. The PhotoSketch plugin merges the benefits of automatic feature extraction, camera pose recovery, an intuitive sketching interface, and advanced texture mapping with occlusion detection to produce lightweight photorealistic 3D models of buildings. These models typically consist of a few hundred polygons each, which makes them well-suited for use in high-performance visualization, online gaming, and web-based applications such as Google Earth.

PhotoSketch is a photo-centric urban 3D modeling plugin for Google SketchUp. In this video, we present an introduction to the PhotoSketch modeling workflow. We review camera calibration, camera pose recovery (including feature extraction, feature matching, and floor alignment), sketching, extrusion, and taper operations. Models can be uploaded to Google Earth. Several examples of uploaded phototextured models are given. See http://www.brains... for more details.

PhotoSketch is a photo-centric urban 3D modeling plugin for Google SketchUp. In this video, a tutorial is presented describing how to use the SketchUp interface along with an extended set of PhotoSketch plugin tools to build 3D models. The PhotoSketch workflow requires the user to draw 2D rectangular footprints directly on the calibrated photo. These footprints are then extruded to embed 3D volumes directly into the 2D scene photos. The photos thereby serve as visual cues as well as textures that are projected onto the extruded geometry to produce photorealistic 3D urban models. See http://www.brains... for more details.

PhotoSketch is a photo-centric urban 3D modeling plugin for Google SketchUp. In this video, a tutorial is presented describing how to set up a new project in PhotoSketch. We show how PhotoSketch proceeds to extract and match geometric features derived from a collection of overlapping photos of an urban scene. This is used to perform camera pose recovery in which the positions and orientations of the cameras that acquired the photos is computed. The purpose of this stage is to infer where the photographer was standing in the scene so that the resulting image can be properly projected onto the created 3D model. Modeling is enhanced by using these projected images as tracing paper upon which the user can sketch the footprint of the model use these images as visual cues for standard SketchUp extrusion and taper operations. See http://www.brains... for more details.
