About Me:
"WHAT DSLR SHOULD I GET?"
I really can't give you a specific recommendation. All I can say is this: Go the store, talk to the sales person, try out the cameras they have, and pick one that fits your budget. The specific tool you have doesn't matter, especially in the beginning when you are using your first camera. I would recommend getting any consumer DSLR if it is your first camera, then upgrade to a pro body after you are familiar with photography. I guess if I had to be specific, I'd recommend getting a Nikon D90 or lower (I'm just throwing this out here.)
If there is no store near-by that sells DSLRs, look at the cheaper cameras on the Nikon and Canon websites, then order it from Amazon or some other online store.
I currently use a Nikon D300s with a Sigma 17-50mm f2.8 lens in case you are wondering, but this is irrelevant. You won't be needing this your first year. I used a Nikon D50 with an 18-55mm lens my first 4 or so years. You can now buy a used Nikon D50 DSLR for ~$300 on eBay and other sites.
