These videos are from Prof. Gail Patricelli's lab at the University of California, Davis. We study the evolution of communication and breeding behaviors in birds, particularly the greater sage-grouse. Greater sage grouse are found in the interior west of the United States, extending into southern Canada. They are among the most spectacular (and bizarre) birds in the world, and are currently being considered for listing as an endangered species in the US. Visit our website for more info about the lab.

Mick --
There's a little bit of info here at the Cornell Lab of O website: http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Greater_Sage-Grouse/id about sage-grouse
I'm not sure if there's a good CD with sage-grouse sounds, but I found this website that offers a download. I haven't tried it yet (or done a virus check on the site), but it might be worth a try:

They made a brief appearance in Winged Migration, and will be featured in the upcoming BBC Life series as well (next year I think).
Hope this helps!
