Un film puissantfort court court sur l'acidification des océans: Lierant la science, industrie, politique et public.
L'acidification des océans est un phénomène récemment reconnu qui résulte de la quantité croissante de dioxyde de carbone (CO2) dans l'atmosphère terrestre. Une grande partie de ce gaz est absorbée à la surface des océans, ence qui pousseant l'eau de mer du bas de l'échelle pH vers l'acidité et pose une menace potentielle pour les écosystèmes marins et ceux qui dépendent d'eux. CommeAlors que la recherche scientifique révèle plus sur comment les océans et la vie qu'ils contiennent pourraient être affectés, il est nécessaire de s'engager avec une communauté plus large, y compris les décideurs, les gestionnaires de l'environnement et le grand public à comprendre ce qui se passe, comment nous pourrions être touchés et quelles actions pourraient être prises pour réduire les risques.
Le film réunit un large éventail de parties prenantes, y compris, SAS le Prince Albert II de Monaco, des écoliers, un poissonnier de Plymouth, un conseiller britannique du gouvernement Chief Scientific, des représentants de l'industrie et l'élaboration des départements politiques départements, ainsi qu'e d'un groupe d'experts scientifiques reconnus internationalement .
Il est devenu évident que chacun des groupes d'intérêt a ses propres préoccupations et le niveau de compréhension. Dr Carol Turley OBE, qui a dirigé l'équipe de production cinématographique à PML dans le cadre de son rôle de coordonnateur d'échange de connaissances pour le programme britannique de recherche océanique sur l'acidification, explique pourquoi cela ce qui peut conduire à des confusions et des malentendus:
"Les scientifiques sont réticents à faire des prédictions à long terme jusqu'à ce qu'ils aient une base scientifique solide pour le faire; les décideurs ont souvent besoin de réponses immédiates qui peuvent conduire à des solutions en temps opportun, alors que l'industrie a besoin pourde planifier à l'avance, et le public veulent savoir comment ils peuvent être affecté et ce qui est fait pour faire face à toute menace susceptible. Une telle diversité des besoins d'information sonne comme une recette pour la peut mener à la confusion. Ce film met en lumièreévidence la nécessité d'établir dès le depart une communication claire, à la première occasion afin de s'assurer que tous les groupes d'intervenants alleriront de l'avant avec une bonne compréhension des positions et responsabilités des uns et des autres postes et des responsabilités, en utilisant un exemple réelconcret de la façon dont ce travaille est déjà effectué au sein de la communauté sur l' acidification des océans. "
Bien que les impacts finaux ne sont toujours pas clairs, l'acidification des océans étantest relativement nouvellement reconnue, elle se passe maintenant et devrait être une préoccupation pour nous tous car elle a le potentiel d'affecter tout le monde. Toutefois, en s'assurerant que le message passe peut être un véritable défi. Parler la même langue, la comprendreéhension dles différentes exigences des divers groupes d'intérêt et l'accepteration de l'importance de travailler ensemble est la première étape.

A powerful short film on Ocean acidification: Connecting science, industry, policy and public.
Ocean acidification is a recently recognised phenomenon which results from the growing quantities of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the Earth's atmosphere. Much of this gas is being absorbed at the ocean surface, pushing seawater down the pH scale towards acidity and posing a potential threat to marine ecosystems and those dependent on them. As scientific research reveals more about how the oceans and the life they contain might be affected, there is a need to engage with a wider community including policy makers, environmental managers and the general public to understand what is happening, how we might be affected and what actions could be taken to reduce any risks.
The film brings together a wide range of stakeholders including, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco, school children, a Plymouth fishmonger, a UK government Chief Scientific Adviser, representatives from industry and policy making departments, as well as a group of internationally recognised expert scientists.
It has become obvious that each of the interest groups has its own concerns and level of understanding. Dr Carol Turley OBE, who led the film production team at PML in her role as Knowledge Exchange Coordinator for the UK Ocean Acidification Research Programme, explains this can lead to confusion and misunderstanding:
"Scientists are reticent to make long-term predictions until they have a sound scientific basis for doing so; policy makers often require immediate answers that can lead to timely solutions, while industry needs to plan ahead; and the public want to know how they may be affected and what is being done to face any likely threats. Such a diversity of information requirements sounds like a recipe for confusion. This film highlights the need for clear communication at the earliest opportunity to ensure that all stakeholder groups go forwards with an understanding of each others' positions and responsibilities, by using a real example of how this is already working within the ocean acidification community."
Although the final impacts are still not clear, ocean acidification is relatively newly recognised, happening now and should be a concern for all of us as it has the potential to affect everyone. However, making sure the message gets through can be a real challenge. Speaking the same language, understanding the different requirements of the various interest groups and accepting the importance of working together is the first step.
