About this user
The ORegans story dates back to 1915 when Stephen E. ORegan (affectionately known as S.E) entered a partnership with three others in the founding of Parrsboro Motors. He eventually became sole owner and over a fifty year period, at different times, represented the three major domestic manufacturers, Chrysler, Ford and General Motors.
In the early 1900s, Parrsboro was a thriving community and served as a major base for the ship building and forestry industries. However, all this changed in the early sixties when a new highway through the Wentworth Valley became the thoroughfare between Truro and the New Brunswick border effectively cutting Parrsboro off from the main stream traffic. S.E. saw the writing on the wall and encouraged his sons Paul and Stephen to attend university and to seek their livelihoods and fortunes in other communities.
In heeding their fathers counsel, both Paul and Stephen initially attended Saint Francis Xavier University in Antigonish. Paul received a Bachelors degree in Science and a degree in Education from Dalhousie while Stephen earned a Diploma in Engineering and his degree in Engineering from TUNS (Technical University of Nova Scotia). After graduation, Paul pursued a career in teaching that took him to Sheet Harbour, Chester and eventually Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. In 1974, he resigned from teaching to pursue a full time career in car sales. In the meantime, Steve joined General Electric and later the Nova Scotia Power Corporation as an engineer until he resigned from resigned from the Power Commission in 1981.
Joining forces in 1981, both brothers returned to the life they had known years earlier in association with their father S.E., now semi-retired but still the mentor, would see his sons operating a very reputable used car business and a busy leasing company. Following in his footsteps he would witness, with a great sense of pride, his sons espousing the ethical practices of selling valued cars and excellent customer service, long associated with his name. After suffering a stroke in 1984, he passed away months before Paul and Stephen would begin the expansion of their business.
In 1985, the ORegans purchased Scotia Chev Olds which would become the cornerstone of the ORegan business. This purchase was followed by the establishment of ORegans Toyota in 1987, soon to include a Lexus franchise, under the banner - ORegans Lexus Toyota. Further acquisitions were to follow in 1990 with the purchase of South Shore Toyota and ORegans Mazda in Bridgewater. In 1994, they purchased Towne Toyota in Halifax and renamed Toyota East. And in that same year they opened a Subaru franchise in Bridgewater. In early 1997, the Mazda line was replaced with Hyundai, to address the value-price conscious customer segment in Bridgewater.
In September of 1997, Paul and Stephen opened a used car operation in Bayers Lake Business Park which has since moved to Kempt Road in Halifax. In 1999, ORegans opened a state of the art collision facility on Wyse Road and on the same property, opened a Kia franchise. In 2002, Halifax Nissan/Infiniti of Halifax joined the ORegans group of companies and made a new home for themselves in the former Toyota East building. They also made a new name for themselves, ORegans Infiniti and ORegans Nissan. In the Spring of 2003, Toyota East, now ORegans Toyota Halifax, moved to their new facility on the corner of Kempt Road and Commission Street, they were joined by ORegans Lexus when the Lexus franchise moved from Dartmouth to Halifax.
