HISTORY OF THE POLLOCK AND POLLOCK GOSSIP SHOW

It has appeared in many formats: TV in the 1980's; movie theatres from 2004 till the present; the internet from 2007 till the present; DVD 2009 release

TV
THE POLLOCK AND POLLOCK GOSSIP SHOW, originally ran for about 200 episodes on TV, which appeared in from 1985-1989. This show, with us appearing live, was featured on the PHIL DONAHUE, JENNY JONES, and JOAN RIVERS TV Talk shows in the 1990's.

MOVIE THEATRES
The POLLOCK AND POLLOCK GOSSIP SHOW has continued on in movie documentary form from 2004 until the present in art film theatres and universities all over North America, and Europe, presented by DANIEL BARROW under the name "Winnipeg Babysitter".
--- In the fall of 2008 Winnipeg Babysitter, featuring our show, played in TORONTO, began its showings in EUROPE; played in NEW YORK CITY at the LIGHT INDUSTRY THEATRE on February 17, 2009; in MONTREAL Friday March 13, 2009 at CONCORDIA UNIVERSITY; on September 10th, 2009, Daniel Barrow was in Portland, Oregon, as a featured performer at the Portland Institute of Contemporary Art's TBA FESTIVAL where he presented it; ---"Winnipeg Babysitter" is scheduled to play in Chicago in October 2009.

1960's.

We began as singer songwriters. In the late 1960's my brother Rockin' Ron and I went to New York City and met singer Dionne Warwick. She produced recordings of our songs with us singing them. We were then signed up to Capitol Records by Artie Kornfeld. At the same time he was producing the famous Woodstock festival.


1970's.

We had 3 recordings on Billboard Magazines in 1974-75 on their national U.S. Charts. "You Foxy Thing I Love You" made it to no. 23. "Dance Music" went to no. 28. "Smile On Me" was no. 35.


1980's till the present -- TV'S "Pollock and Pollock Gossip Show" (see above)


OUR MUSIC ON THE DVD
Barrow edited the documentary into DVD form including special features not in the documentary, including a recording of ours from 1972 called "Six Times" which garnered quite a lot of radio play at the time it came out (top ten at CFRW Winnipeg). It can be heard in "favorites" on this site. Also included is an early 1980's recording of us performing our song "What'll I do, after you're gone".

Alan Greenspan was another follower of Ayn Rand and was going out with Joan Mitchell of Winnipeg in the fifties and came to Winnipeg and Winnipeg Beach to see her....so between Barbara and leanard.Peikoff and Alan Greenspan's girlfriend from Winnipeg and other followers there if a real Winnipeg Connnection to AYN RAND and her Objectivism Institute .
In the years that Barbara came to Winnipeg during the eighties she said that she no longer believed
in all that Objectivism stuff to me and that she now is merely a Liberarian...and she said that Ayn was such a mean person...She lives in LA now and in Winnipeg went through a horrible bout of Cancer......
In the fifties when I was growing up it was all really hush hush in my family whenever anyone mentioned
Barbara and Nathan..I guess you could say they were the controvercial members then....becasue Jews were supposed to be Liberal.

There are two new books out about the mean ultra right wing author of Fountainhead Ayn Rand...but you must read my cousin Barbara Brandon's book about Ayn...because it was her who had to share her husband sexually with Ayn....
Barbara's book is callled the Passion of Ayn Rand and in it she tells about how Ayn pushed her into marrying her husband Nathaniel so Ayn could have an affair with Nathaniel(natthan Blumenthal)..
The story of Ayn Rand and her ultra-right wing culy likr followers was also made into a movie also titled "The Passion of Ayn Rand.
My cousin Barbara is a wonderful person who got caught up in this whole thing because of her husband and eventually divorced him because he was cheating on her and Ayn with his now-wife Patricia....
Barbara told Ayn that Natan was cheating on both of them and Nathan was pushed out of the whole
Objectivism Institute which he started and Ayn left her money to another Winnipegger named Peikoff..

One of the dumnest things I ever did was turn down Barry Manilow to be my arranger...but who knew...we hung out together at Pat Jaques's studio Broadway recordin studio and I had just hired Charlie Callelo as my arranger for my first Capital record The Destruction of Dawn Street...he must of been around 20 and was working at the mailroom at CBS ...and he tried so hard to get me to hire him instead...of course I did not know anything about him so I said I have to use Charlie...but forever I wish I had used him...but who knew ...you never know...do you

Again I am wrong Six times was my second record....My Capital record was my first in 1968....the one with Dionne.
A funny story was that when I was managed and produced by Paul Cantor at Sceptre records he mentioned to me that he was managing a singing group from Winnipeg and that they were called the Guess Who.
Paul said that he was going to drop them that they were going nowhere...I told him not to that they
were from my town and that they were good....but he dropped them anyway and a couple of weeks later
they had a big hit "These eyes" ...so I almost met Burton Cummings then but never did until years later when we both were not managed by Paul anymore...what a small world..

As I remember we needed musicians and in an article in the paper we said that we needed musicians and
Stumpwater showed up....I blew my voice out on Six Times...that was the end of my heavy rock singing.....
I remember I wore a long green robe and I wore my fro so big my hair was as big as Hendrix's.
But that was 72 and we did look wierd...I also wore white lipstick.

By the way the record SIX TIMES was my first record....it hit number ten on CFRW in Winnipeg and then it was banned ....I guess it was too wild for those days...we used Steve Heghi on guitar and Stumpwater for backup and recorded it at Century 21 in Winnipeg...and I think if you listen right at the end you can hear the toilet flushing at the end of the record because the bathroom was right beside the studio door.....oh well, it was 1972 and that was the beginning of recording studios in Winnipeg.

Oh my Gosh...I said 1868 instead of 1968 ...that is so funny...I am older ...but not that old.
I make so many typos because I write when I am tired at the end of the day...but I have so much to do
in the daytime that I don't really sit down until before bed....
I cook a lot...that is why I am not skinny...what a great big excuse...but really I have only gained ten pounds
in 20 years since the Pollock and Pollock show ended.
I am a short person...I am five feet and I would like to be thinner but I won't starve myself..that is unhealthy.

It was on a friday in 1868 ...I forget which month...but the first offer we had for that song was from Kenny Vance who was in a group called Jay and the Americans...we said no...
And then we met Larry Brown who wrote Tie A Yellow Ribbon...he took us in to see his boss...Bob Crewe (who produced the Four Seasons) we turned him down too...that was dumb but we wanted to meet Burt Bacherach....so eventurally that afternoon we met Dionne Warwick who was sitting with her
mother in an oiffice at Sceptre Records and she and her manager Paul Kantor sighned us up .....and the rest of the story will be tomorrow...
