Train 380, Amtrak's inbound Illinois Zephyr, arrives into Naperville, IL., for its station stop, led by AMTK 142.
380 was delayed for a couple minutes, which gave us time to get to the other end of the platform, for another shot.
An inbound Metra train arrives and departs Naperville, bound for a snowy Chicago.
A pair of BNSF ES44AC's are really kicking up the fresh powder, as they roll east through Naperville, with a loaded coal train.
An outbound Metra train arrives and departs Naperville, in the snowstorm.
The H3, Dash 9 leader of this eastbound Z train looks to have seen some serious snow in its recent travels, as it slowly passes through Naperville, crossing over from Main 2 to 3. Three BNSF Dash 9's follow.
As the eastbound intermodal rolls along, a pair of horsies dash through the snow, with a westbound manifest.
This inbound Metra train kicks up some snow as it arrives into Naperville for its stop.
This westbound manifest kicks up some serious snow, as it rolls through Naperville, powered by a BNSF Dash 9 and...of all things, a BC Rail Dash 9-44CWL, #4644! A very cool catch! My first sighting of a BCOL Canadian cab.
Not long after the manifest with the BC Rail came through, a second westbound manifest came roaring through, creating a major blizzard. It's powered by a pair of BNSF Dash 9's.
Precipitation on the lens creates this neat video of an outbound Metra arriving into the station.
Four BNSF Dash 9's are dashing through the snow with this westbound stack train.

Hello everyone. Welcome to Hot Rails Productions! I'm Nick, from Joliet, IL. I've been a fan of trains ever since I was a little kid. When I was young, I kept asking my parents if I could go back to the train station in town. That continued for years and eventually, it became my favorite hobby. Aside from trains, I also have some other interests, such as photography, computers, music, weather, baseball (Cubs), football (Bears), basketball (Bulls) and much more.
Lines that I railfan most are the BNSF Chillicothe and Chicago Subs, the EJ&E (now CN), Metra Rock Island District and CSXT/IAIS rails. Occasionally, I railfan more!
Thanks again for visiting and I hope that you enjoy my videos!

12/22/2009 - Railfanning the CN Leithton and CN Matteson Subdivisions
A CN ES44DC and a CN SD75I work hard to get their eastbound, M390 train going up the hill, out of Joliet, as they enter New Lenox, IL.
A unit that has been spending a lot of time around Kirk Yard, CN GP9 7030, finds itself assigned to Joliet Yard, on the Smurfit Stone Local. Here, it's thundering up the hill in Joliet, not far from its destination.
After finishing up its work at Smurfit Stone, CN 7030 slowly makes its way back west through Joliet, bound for the yard.
A couple miles from Joliet Yard, 7030 knocks down the approach signal at 763. It would stop at the next signal, just outside of the yard, to allow Metra traffic to cross the diamond.
On my way home, I heard the northbound M391 finishing up its switching at the yard and requesting permission to depart. It had a CN C40-8M and a CN SD40-2W for power. Pretty cool! I headed to Plainfield to set up. Long train, eh??

T'was an EJ&E kind of morning!
I woke up and flipped on the scanner, hoping something would be going on, on the old EJ&E. Not five minutes after, I heard EJ&E 663 heading south, already clear of the River Line, meaning I didn't have much time. It was the L519 (AXS1). I flew out the door and made my way to the tracks. As I parked at the bottom of the hill, the gates began to go down and I ran up that hill as fast as I could. I've never ran so fast in my life. I got to the tracks, set the tripod up as a mini and snagged a video. 663, with its newly installed P5, rolls south through Crest Hill, IL. Fortunately, I was also able to get a picture as well. Mission accomplished!
Scanner chatter then revealed that the train had to hold, short of the bridge, to allow a barge on the Des Plaines River to pass. I headed towards the east side of Joliet and made it to the tracks. The train was on the approach to CN's East Joliet Yard, as I arrived. When you hear a P5, you certainly don't think "EJ&E." A CN truck was sitting close by, idling away.
With nothing else going on, I headed home. CN apparently wasn't going to let me stay home for long. I was home for ten minutes, when I heard the 663 heading back out north, with the L509 (JSW1). By this time, it was about noon and the JSW1 is usually out of Joliet by 7:45 in the morning. I headed back out to the tracks, near I-55. Here, the 663 has the throttle opened up, as it highballs towards the River Line, in Plainfield, not far ahead.
At Renwick Road, in Plainfield, we see the 663 beginning its trip to Morris, down the River Line. Made it just in time, too.
Now, in Shorewood, the 663 rolls along, not too far from Minooka.

I received a heads up about an eastbound, IAIS ethanol train. I went out to pursue it and heard scanner chatter about him slowly passing through Rockdale. I headed out to New Lenox for the shot. A pair of GP38-2's (717 and 704), the leader with a very nice Leslie RS3L, and an ES44AC have the throttles ripped wide open, as they thunder east through the morning snowfall.
I happened to be going by the old J Yard and saw the Line Train (L515) entering the yard. I'm thankful that the EJ&E 675 was in charge. A UP AC4400CW trails. Due to the power shortage for CN, UP's have found their way into the power pool.
BNSF 668 east called into UD Tower, looking to proceed across the diamonds. He was granted permission and crosses Ohio Street in Joliet. Santa Fe Warbonnet and an NS Dash 9...not bad at all! The train is slowing for a crew change in the BNSF Yard.
After the 668 in Joliet, I got stuck by a barge in town, and had to wait a good 15 minutes. When you live in Joliet, you get used to that sort of thing. Anyway, the barge cleared and I was off to Lockport. Pretty much already assuming that the 668 was long gone, I pulled up to the tracks to sit for a while. The gates began to lower and nothing came for a good two minutes. Malfunction? Nope, the 668 was creeping along at a very slow speed, and stopped just short of the crossing. Scanner chatter revealed that track work was going on around Romeo andd that the 668 had to wait for a westbound to clear. 668 had been sitting for a good half hour, when a westbound Z train flew by, making for a very cool meet. Four Dash 9's power the westbound. As soon as the westbound cleared, 668 started up and slowly headed east towards the Harbor.
Amtrak 22 (inbound Texas Eagle) kicks up the fresh powder as it highballs north towards Chicago, passing through Lockport.
Now, on the CN in Plainfield, we see the northbound M343 highballing along, powered by a CN SD70I, a CN SD75I and an IC SD70. A nice all-EMD lash-up, with a nice P3 on the leader!
The power shortage woes continue, as a trio of UP AC4400CW's (the second being a patched SP) lead the southbound, State Line loads through Plainfield.
After the State Line cleared, the northbound M391 got the signal off the siding at Turner. A CN ES44DC is in charge, followed by a CN SD70I.
hey great train videos there good. did u here about the Canadian national derailment yesterday in burlington il? i went there and it was cool 1 car was off tracks and 2 were on their sides......i forgot my camera.... :(
Hey Nick it may already be too late to let you know but the Amtraks off the BNSF Mendota Sub are on the BNSF Chillicothe Sub because of some sort of service disruption on Mendota Sub so they are heading your way
