Justine "Baby" Washington (aka Jeanette Washington) was born November 13, 1940 in Bamberg, South Carolina. Washington's tremendously moving voice, earthy but sophisticated, perfectly epitomized uptown soul. Yet unlike her southern counterparts, she never experienced great crossover recognition, although she once cited by Dusty Springfield as her all-time favorite singer. Washington was raised in Harlem, singing first in a vocal group, the Hearts, in 1956 and becoming a solo artist the following year. Washington had 16 rhythm and blues chart entries in 15 years, most of them during the 1960s. In 1963, she scored her only entry on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Top 40 with 1963's "That's How Heartaches Are Made." Two years later, she hit again on the U.S. R&B Top 10 with "Only Those In Love." Washington is still active as a live performer, appearing several times a year on the East Coast. .
THAT'S HOW HEARTACHES ARE MADE (Words and Music by Ben Raleigh and Bob Halley)
(That's how heartaches are made... That's how heartaches are made...)
They told me I was such a fool to love you They say that you're the kind who'd never be true Pretty soon the day would come when I'd be the sorry one But I said that I'm not afraid Well, that's how heartaches are made, that's how heartaches are made
I went ahead and my heart opened the door I gave you so much love, no one could want more You pretended to be mine, how could you be so unkind? With all the other girls you've played Well, that's how heartaches are made, that's how heartaches are mad
(That's how heartaches are made... That's how heartaches are made...)
I know you're not sincere, and you'll never be But, still, I want your kisses so desperately I can never let you go Baby, even though I know every rule of love you've disobeyed...
Well, that's how heartaches are made... That's how heartaches are made... That's how heartaches are made...

In 1978, Karen and Richard recorded their first Christmas album, "Christmas Portrait." At the time, the original plan had been for them to record a double Christmas album, but in the end, only one album was released. Karen and Richard planned to return to the studio to record more songs for another Christmas album, but health problems for both of them interfered and any further work on another Christmas album was postponed. Subsequently, Karen died of heart failure in 1983. A year after Karen's death, the second album, "An Old-Fashioned Christmas" was released, which included the out-takes from the 1978 Christmas sessions as well as new material recorded by Richard. "An Old-Fashioned Christmas" was the titled song for the second album.
An Old-Fashioned Christmas
How I miss an old-fashioned Christmas! Carols being sung by the tree, Window's candlelight shining bright for the whole world to see
Children's eyes of sweet expectations Wondering what each present will hold Lying in their beds and impatient On long Christmas Eves of old
It used to be that all the family would gather for this one night It used to be that special feeling shared together knowing Christmas was here one night a year
How I miss that old-fashioned Christmas! Memories that last through the years Call me sentimental; don't mind if you do I wish an old-fashioned Christmas to you!

Theme song from "Gidget," full version.
"Gidget" was an American sitcom about a surfing, boy-crazy teenager called "Gidget" and her widowed father Russ Lawrence, a UCLA professor. Sally Field starred as Gidget with Don Porter as her father. Though 18-year-old Sally Field defeated 75 other teenage girls for the title role of the 15-year-old Gidget, she exaggerated her surfing experience. The young actress had none and took lessons just to be able to pretend to surf for the cameras.
The series was first broadcast on ABC from September 15, 1965 through April 21, 1966. Gidget was among the first regularly scheduled color programs on ABC, but did poorly in the Nielsen ratings. The series faced stiff competition from The Beverly Hillbillies on CBS and The Virginian on NBC, two established shows with strong followings. Due to low ratings, ABC canceled Gidget in the spring of 1966. The series gained an audience during the summer of 1966 through reruns, but ABC executives decided to star Field in 1967's The Flying Nun rather than revive Gidget. Field later stated that while she loved working on Gidget, she despised The Flying Nun.
The Gidget theme song lyrics were written by Howard Greenfield, with music by Jack Keller. The song was sung in the pilot by The Four Freshmen and in the series by Johnny Tillotson.
Howard Greenfield and Jack Keller also wrote the theme song for "Bewitched."

"Journey to the Unknown" was a 60-minute sci fi anthology that was produced for British television in the late Sixties. The first episode was entitled "Eve" and was about a young man working as a boutique assistant in swinging London. The story occupies the half-world between reality and madness. It involves a department store window dresser named Albert Baker, who has fallen in love with a store-window mannequin. To Albert, "Eve" is a real person, but his love is threatened when she is doomed to be destroyed with other discarded mannequins. Was "Eve" ever anything but a store mannequin? Or did she really come to life for Albert?
In 1969, Karen and Richard Carpenter recorded their first album, "Offering" (later retitled "Ticket To Ride,") One of the songs was called "Eve," and was based on this episode. Richard explains how he and John Bettis wrote "Eve:"
"Eve" written in 1968, was inspired by an episode of a suspense anthology that was on TV at the time. Different stories were featured each week with a variety of guest stars. One starred Carol Lynley and was entitled "Eve." This triggered in me the opening lines both lyrically and musically, after which I completed the melody and John did likewise with the lyrics. Karen was just 19 years old when she recorded "Eve."
