The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) is an emergency and rescue service committed to assisting the community, with some 10,000 dedicated and professional volunteers in 228 locations state-wide.
While our major responsibilities are for flood, storm and tsunami operations, the SES also provides the majority of general rescue effort in the rural parts of the state. This includes road accident rescue, vertical rescue, searches for lost or missing people, evidence searches and alpine search and survival. Volunteers in a number of isolated communities have been trained as Community First Responders by the Ambulance Service of New South Wales.

This month's banner features the SES' aerial capability.
During large operational responses the SES may use aircraft for a range of activities including resupply, rescue and reconnaissance. Both rotary (helicopter) and fixed wing aircraft may be used. In this photo a helicopter pilot and SES members plan a mission.
