When Katrina hit, a remarkable group of dedicated volunteers came to East New Orleans and faced incredible hardships to rescue over 3,000 pets. MuttShack set up a MASH unit, pet shelter and aggressive dog ward. They stayed and lobbied in support of Senator Fontenot's Pets Act winning the right for people to evacuate with their pets. But the crisis is not over. The act did not provide for all the supplies equipment and training that is necessary to prepare for a storm. Even though the State mandates that people be allowed to evacuate with their pets, equipment, supplies and trained volunteers are still desperately needed prestorm - and there is no money set aside to provide them.
We made a promise to all those who suffered... please let's keep it!
