About Me:

Self-taught guitarist/harp player who's spent far too much hard-earned money on music books (soon to appear on E-bay; don't bid on them 'cause they're useless) that have so spectacularly failed to show how to play songs the way they were recorded. Confession - on hearing Bob Dylan's first album in the music room of my school in early 1963, my reaction was "What the **** is this!!??". By the summer of '63 I was playing his songs on my harmonica. In the summer of '65 I was playing his songs on my 1st guitar, and annoyed the hell out of other campers in the Scottish Highlands. There were no decent books in those days, no "How to play" tutorials, and to buy a decent guitar you'd need a mortgage. Now you can buy a great guitar for 300 quid and get your nose into Youtube to find out how to play it. I want to give something back for this wonderful resource - and help others get proficient in a fraction of the time it took me. This channel is dedicated to Bob Dylan's Dream and the sentiments in that song - and to the memory of those "first few friends I had" who sang and played his songs with me back all those years ago....

Been playing Dylan all my life, in my own hack guitar way. Your videos have been a breakthrough for me. Uncanny how you've picked my favorites. Did you ever post the Telltale Signs version of Mississippi?

I just read your "About Me" column and I thought, what a wonderful person! Bless you sir. I will be 71 in March and 4 years ago after finding Youtube I decided it was time to start making music, so I bought my first acoustic guitars. I got both a Nylon for finger-picking and a steel string for strumming. I've not mastered it yet but i've learned so much about music on my journey. I hope one day to post at least one video here! LOL I just subscribed to your channel. If you visit my channel you'll not find any up-loaded videos but I do have a lot of folks I subscribe to that teach or demonstrate different songs and techniques etc. This Youtube is a wonderful place!

Jim...just discovered your site. You are definitely an inspiration to me. I'm 54 years old and just started to learn the guitar. Your tutorials are GREAT. They are definitely better than most on YouTube. I've already learned a few songs from you and plan on learning more. Thanks again for teaching a beginner how to LOVE playing the guitar...

Hello, I've been discovering your channel a few weeks ago. Thanks to your tutorials I learned my favorites Dylan songs in a very nice way (Tambourine man, Don't think twice etc..). Your tutorials are wonderful and I like very much the way you explain the "small chord variations" that give Dylan's guitar sound. Sorry for my poor english. but if some day you teach us "It ain't me babe" I'd be your number1 fan. Thanks! Greetings from Paris,

Jim, I'm a huge fan of your teaching style and playing! When can we expect the next "Boots of Spanish Leather" video? You still need to explain the tricky bits!

Hey Jim, thanks for all the great vids. I've been following you for a few years now and I keep coming back. I believe it's high time for my first request. How about "Farewell" by Dylan off the Witmark Demos album? I haven't seen anyone post that one yet.

Cheers!
