The copyright designs and patents act 1988 says that There is no infringement where two works are similar but the alleged infringer proves that he drew from the same resources as the original author. Again, there may not be infringement if the second work is an original parody of the first.
The work you did was an original work, and there is no basis for copyright infringment. I wish i knew this earlier, hope that it helps...
