About Me:
The young man who has opened for acts such as Eve, Benzino, Lil Kim, Sean Paul and worked alongside R&B icon R. Kelly has an interesting back story as it relates to his name. Always known as a gentleman with the ladies, the name "Kertasy" also extends to his prowess behind the microphone.
"It's a metaphor for me being 'nice' at whatever I do from rapping, to the way I dress, to the way I conduct business. Plus, it has a ring to it and the ladies love it!"
Stemming from New Jersey, Kertasy understands the rich cultural history of its Hip-Hop scene. Artists such as Queen Latifiah, Redman, Nuaghty By Nature and Joe Budden have all gone on to achieve their own level off acclaim. Similar to his song, Kertasy states the claim that he is the beginning of a "Breath Of Fresh Air" of artists from the third state. His resume' may support just that. Backed by an acclaimed mixtape - Kockback and Reloaded Vol. 1, the Elizabeth resident has seen his release co-signed by the Harlem Diplomats and while on Vibe Magazine's College Tour with Juelz Santana, Little Brother and Fabolous. Kertasy looks to bring the commercial and mainstream appeal the state has been missing in recent years.
While his music is intended to incite energy and enjoyment, Kertasy is never far from his Haitian roots. He reflected on the days when he and people of the same descent were not openly accepted by peers during his younger days. Even still, he has always carried pride for his heritage in his music both before and after the devastating earthquake which struck the country in January 2010. At the very least, it serves as nothing else but motivation.
"A lot of Haitians are making moves in the industry right now. We're just standing strong. So when I record, I do it so people can be like 'wooow, he Haitian making music like that?" because I always get mistaken for being African American since I have no accent.
The self proclaimed "Black Vincent Chase" has accomplished much already during his time in the industry. It is his future which appears to be even brighter. Over the coming weeks, Kertasy looks to release a video for his Bungalo/ Universal Music Group single "Your Love" that should be attacking BET and MTV real soon. He is also excited for the release of his sure fire club anthem "Shake That Cake" and the possibility of having his music featured in movies, TV shows, etc. through a venture with a Los Angeles based marketing company. The most important endeavor, however, is the release of his next project entitled Kertasy Of Hip-Hop Vol. 1: Dreams Of An Up & Comer.
In the grand scheme of things, Kertasy is built in the same vein as everyone who wakes up each morning - uncertain of what the future holds, but positive his work ethic will take him to heights the previous day did not.
"My music is for everyone, young or old. I want my music to reflect what's going on in my life at the time. I can make a song for every different emotion a human has."
