About Me:

Janusz Madej was born on the 11th of May in Warsaw, Poland. At the age of six his mother discovered his abnormal physical flexibility. After consulting an orthopedic specialist, he was admitted to train as a ballet dancer at The Warsaw School of Ballet. Janusz quickly established himself as the best of his class and as the years progressed one of the best in the school. His all apparent technique ability was complemented by quickly developing artistic talent. After 8 years of grueling training, which also included the opportunity to work and perform with the Opera of Warsaw (as well as a tour in La Boule, France and in Osaka, Japan), Janusz received a scholarship from The Central School of Ballet in London, United Kingdom. He joined their third year graduating class and performed with Ballet Central all around Great Britain.
Highly influenced by Christopher Gable CBE, the artistic director of The Central School of Ballet and the professional ballet company The Northern Ballet Theatre, Janusz accepted a contract to join his company as a court de ballet dancer. Highly charismatic Sir Christopher Gable, who in later stages of his life was a professional actor, brought an extreme attention to acting and drama in his productions of The Northern Ballet Theatre (NBT). For two years Janusz toured with NBT all over the United Kingdom, performing in such ballets as Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote, Giselle, Hunchback of Notre Dame, Dracula and many others. He also took part in many international touring programs including Istanbul, Turkey.

In 1998 there was a time for change and Janusz arrived in Amsterdam, The Netherlands to take classes at the famous Het Nationale Ballet (HNB). After a successful audition the artistic director Wayne Eagling offered him a contract to join the company. On August 4th 1998 he began his ten year career with the Dutch National Ballet. Janusz quickly established himself as a superb technician as well as a character dancer and took part in all of the repertoire; classical, modern and character.
. With HNB he traveled all around the world, touring in Canada, France and Germany to name few. He was also fortunate to choreograph two pieces for the highly acclaimed choreography workshop 'New Moves': "Madness" (1999) and "Rhapsody of proxemics" (2003), for which he was interviewed by the biggest Dutch newspaper 'De Telegraaf'. Janusz was also invited by the Dutch Embassy in Managua, Nicaragua to perform "Rhapsody of Proximics" at the Modern Dance Festival.
Due to the fact that the profession of a ballet dancer is short lived he always envisioned a new career for himself. Always having a passion for acting the decision was easy.

In his free time Janusz took part in numerous acting workshops and studied acting with The Department of Acting Amsterdam. As a young actor working on his craft, he was fortunate to take part in tens of short films in cooperation with different filmmaking schools from Amsterdam and Rotterdam. Here he developed an interest and passion for filmmaking. He helped to direct, produce, edit and did art design on most of the projects.

The pivical point in his career came with the acceptance for a weekend study "Masterclass' of renowned Hollywood acting coach Ivana Chubbuck. Ivana Chubbuck is the acting guru behind discovering Hollywood heavyweights like Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Jessica Biel, Halle Berry and countless others. She is also the founder of the 'Chubbuck Technique' and The Ivana Chubbuck Studio in Hollywood, Los Angeles. In 2007 she came to Amsterdam to promote her book 'The power of the actor', which became a bible to all actors around the world. Janusz was fortuned to be selected as one of 16 actors from the Western part of Europe to participate in this challenging Masterclass. Ivana and Janusz quickly connected on an artistic level and after the workshop he was invited by her to come study acting at her acting studio in Hollywood.

Before he left to Hollywood Janusz decided to fulfill his dream of making a film project, which he was working on for the last 5 years. He took to heart Stanley Kubrick's famous quote "If you want to learn how to make a film, make one" and he set his sight on his first project, a feature film titled '11'. After months of preproduction Janusz gathered a crew of passionate filmmakers and talented international actors to shoot the film within 15 days shooting period on six different locations situated in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Janusz wrote the script, directed, produced '11' and played the lead role. This experience convinced him to pursue not only an acting career, but also filmmaking.

After the advise of Ivana Chubbuck, Janusz submitted an application to The Los Angeles Film School for their 'Science in Film Degree' study. Always keeping in mind that his filmmaking knowledge will make him a better actor and vice versa, he retired from Het National Ballet in 2008 and moved to Hollywood, Los Angeles.

Great work Janusz, came across it through your role as Stanley in A Streetcar named Desire, I wish you all the best in the future, wlasnie mieszkam w Huddersfield i moja siostra w Leeds so it was interesting to read you were in Leeds for a while, as a Pole born abroad I must say you do a good service as there are many negative stereotypes regarding slavic men as uncultured brutes etc. Wszystkiego najlepszego, Marcin.
