IRT is developing an online resource for teachers to be able to use for free to teach their students about issues related to refugees. Topics include racism, refugees, asylum seekers and human rights. At the moment we do not yet have our own video's, but we were delighted to find some wonderful video's online on websites such as Teachers.tv. Check out the video's and why not have a browse through our IRT Classroom pages at http://www.irt.org.uk/irt-classroom/ .

Barefoot Peace Walk 2010 took place in London as well as Gulu and Lira in northern Uganda. Our local partners in Lira, the Obaya Community Association, have just sent us a video of their walk. We are so impressed with the organisation of their event and the large number of participants. Some participants walked for hours to get the the town of Lira to join the event. To us it really highlights how important this issue is to the people in the region, and how essential it is that we keep up the effort to promote peace.

IRT is organising Barefoot Peace Walk this year on the 21st September 2010. We will start at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Trafalgar Square, at 18:00. The after event will take place in the Africa Centre, Covent Garden. During the evening the author and journalist Jane Bussmann will perform her sell-out show, a dark comedy based on her visit to Northern Uganda and her discovery of the children caught up in the conflict. Anneke van Woudenberg, senior researcher from Human Rights Watch, will provide an update of the current situation. We look forward to seeing you there!

IRT's CEO, Adrian Hatch, has just returned from southern Sudan where he spoke to many refugees from DR Congo about the situation with the LRA. Violent attacks seem to be decreasing and there are rumours that Joseph Kony is temporarily recuperating else where. None of the refugees thought the LRA atrocities were over: almost all were certain that violence would surge again. Please visit IRT's website for more LRA updates and to find out about Barefoot Peace Walk 2010.
