The Brazilian soprano Ida Miccolis sings Ilara's aria, "O ciel di Parahyba", from Carlos Gomes' Lo Schiavo. Gomes had many of his opera performed very often in Italy in the late 19th century and the early 20th century.

Lo Schiavo is considered by many as his best opera, and this aria from Act Three is one of the highlights of the piece. The photos show exactly what the title says: the sky in the Valley of Paraíba (in older Portuguese, Parahyba), between Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. (less info)
