Matt Pullin's chess videos. Live blitz, game analysis, opening theory, etc.
About Me:

I am not a Grandmaster... just an Expert (USCF rating: 2049). I have been playing chess since I was a freshman in high school. I try to make my chess videos as interesting as possible. I hope you will learn something.

The number of users creating chess videos on YouTube has increased dramatically since I started making these. If you, too, want to make chess videos, you will need:

1) good material
2) a screen capture program (I use CamStudio)
3) a chess program (I've used WinBoard and PGNmentor, but ChessBase9 works wonders and also helps you organize your thoughts beforehand)
4) a microphone (I got mine at Radio Shack for 30 bucks)
5) patience. It takes me about 30 min to make a 10 min video because I don't have any video editing software.
6) it helps to have a computer engine to analyze your content such as Fritz or Crafty. If you make a tactical mistake in your video, the viewers here will eat you alive, even if you apologize for it in the description. Better to re-shoot the video in that case.

I used to have a really long paragraph here about how I wanted people to behave on my channel, but the ones I'm concerned about always view my videos before reading this, so what's the point?

I IGNORE ALL FRIEND REQUESTS. It's not that I don't like friends, just that I don't see the point of the friend system on YouTube. If I like your stuff I will subscribe to it.

I like people who ask questions better than people who post 'refutations' in an authoritative tone (because they are usually wrong and seldom check their work beforehand, missing obvious things like pinned pieces).

If you see someone making such a comment, please feel free to respond to them, because I ignore these now.

Also it makes it a lot easier for me and others to know what the heck you're talking about if you learn algebraic notation (1.e4 e5 2.Bc4 Nf6, etc.) and also include the move number or time in the video of the position in question. If you do not do this and I find your comment incoherent I may simply delete it, please understand it's not personal. Thanks.

See ya,
GreenCastle

I just realized: if I had a rating point for every subscriber I'd almost be a master :-D Thanks guys

I felt that my weakest facet in my chess game was not being able to adequately defend plays that would have taken advantage of pinned pieces and other corresponding pawn forks, etc. However, having studied your videos, and seeing your sound positional play, I have seen a great decline in those positional mistakes of mine.
Thank you very much; I enjoy your videos.

Back from Ohio... got 3.5/5.0 which was good enough for 4th/5th place in Under 2100 section

Hi Matt, I really love your videos! Since you are able of both evaluating and explaining(!) positions very well I would be delighted to see you covering one of your Taimanov-Sicilian games in a video. I went over some of them on your website and I think they are pretty interesting! I know that you hate doing opening requests, however this is not such a request, I'm rather interested in the games themselves but of corse it wouldn't be wrong to present some ideas in this opening. Best regards!

Matt! Rob Flax here, ETHS class of 2006. I don't think we actually overlapped on the chess team, but I have certainly played (and lost) a couple games against you. Nice games, great instructional content. What are you up to nowadays? Are you still in Evanston?
