Goathanger formed in late 2010 with Dean, Grant, Tim, Chris and original bass player Mark Kite.Dean and Grant over the past eight years had been playing together in a range of different bands, one of which, Pariah. Tim, during the 90's played in the death metal band, Cohort, who were signed to Warhead Records and released two albums 'Near Death Experience' and 'Drawn and Quartered'. Scott also played bass in the local rock band, Painted Lady, and Chris has played in a range of different bands over the past 10 years including local cover band, Screams of Slaughter.
Originally without a jam room, Goathanger began writing songs specifically on guitars. None of which made it to the final Goathanger setlist's. Bassist Mark Kite left the band not long after this. But the true Goathanger sound would not evolve until the band began writing as a whole. Songs began to flow and over the next six months about eight different tunes were written. Bass player Scott Hockey soon joined the band and began writing bass lines to the songs.
Goathanger's debut gig was at Norths Football Club Whyalla, with fellow local metal band Warclaw and Adelaide's Quaero Verum on June 12th 2011.
New songs are currently being worked on and will hopefully be on the setlist for the next show at The Cavern in Adelaide, 27th August. And hopefully another Whyalla show, possibly September 17th!
Thumbs up for the awkward saxophonist
