My family came to Nevada in the 1860s. Like many Irish and Italian immigrants they settled in Virginia City to work in the gold and silver mines. I, like many Nevadans, share their values of a strong work ethic, optimism and confidence in the future of our state and country and a deep commitment to personal responsibility and common sense.

I believe that government needs to be fiscally responsible---- Americans can spend their hard-earned money more wisely than they can in Washington, D.C.; we need policies that reward initiative and hard work rather than penalize it; we need energy independence, not an energy tax; we need tort reform and other real health care reforms and not government control with more spending and taxes; we need to protect our right to work.

I deeply believe in fairness and equity, which is why I am so outraged that In February, when Harry Reid strong-armed the so-called "stimulus" bill through the Senate, a $787 billion deficit-spending bill packed full of partisan pork, Nevada didn't even get its fair share, ending up last or near-last in per capita funding. Nevadans send far more tax dollars to Washington, D.C. than we get back.

I will fight for Nevada.
