Hi focusedonfishing,

Thanks for watching our intro video and letting us know about your concerns.

Bag limits are determined by the California Fish and Game Commission based on fish populations rather than on contamination status. So, the CF&GC sets a bag limit of 10 for the white croaker to keep its population sustainable, not to deem it safe to eat.

The volunteer in the video was likely talking to fishermen in what we call a yellow zone. Men over 17 and women over 45 can eat white croaker twice a week within a yellow zone, but no one can eat white croaker caught within a red zone. The red zone stretches from Santa Monica Pier to Seal Beach. You can visit our Southern California Fish Consumption Advisory and Contaminated Fish Areas pages for more info on this: http://bit.ly/e2JT2h and http://bit.ly/h4vHWY.

Thanks again for your comment. If you have any additional questions, feel free to send us a private message.

I like any info on how to stay healthy. I am concerned that towards the end of your video you indicate a bag limit of 10 for white croaker. This sends a message that it is ok to eat white croaker. I'm also concerned that during your video one of your volunteers reports that white croaker should not be eaten more than 1 to 2 times per month.
