I am now ExtantFrodo2 due to Google's stupid login crap.
Life is nothing more than animated matter. Mind (the software running on the substrate of animated matter: is what we cherish. The body is a piece of crap that is very fragile, poorly designed, badly powered, insufficiently self maintaining and this is all obviously due to the default effects of evolution. We are presently limited to the one substrate for existence of our minds. This is unacceptable. So we invent gods when we should be inventing a more durable substrate.
The sub-optimality of systems is one of the factors indicative of evolution. Evolution is great at quickly finding solutions that work (whether they work great or not) they just happen to work better than ones peers. It doesn't care what form that solution takes or what it limits in terms of other solutions. It doesn't/can't take into account any possible future use or detriment conferred by any new solution or mutation. All these things are inherent in evolved designs.
Why is the last resort of every excuse laid down for the god who does nothing ever for anyone. "He doesn't have to."
You're absolutely right.
He doesn't HAVE to care that babies die in tsunamis he could prevent.
He doesn't HAVE to remake our physiology so that we don't choke to death while eating.
He doesn't HAVE to remove the pain of burn victims.
But in my book that makes him a fucking asshole.
Don't ask me to think otherwise.
I don't have the capacity to be that inhuman.
So supposedly, god KNEW how to cure small pox ages ago but he just chose to let billions die of this horribly painful disease because he's so wise and compassionate. With friends like that, who needs enemies?

If you can't take school (and believe me I know many can't) don't pretend that the university bookstore is not still an excellent resource for building your knowledge. Knowledge is power. Knowledge is being able to tell when some one is pulling the wool over your eyes. But (and I say this from experience) knowledge without the tools to implement it is very very frustrating. You will want to do so much more than you can. But let that motivate you to get the tools or at least access to them. Then Change the World!Evolution:
the competition and cooperation ravaged selection process that by way of amplification of mutations makes the universal reversal of those mutations literally impossible. In so much as the competitions are ALWAYS among contemporaries situated in their own environment winners breed, losers do not.
For this NOT to make complex intricate biology after 3.5 billion years would be a miracle.
Evolution has/does/will happen. It is as substantiated as gravity or electromagnetic theory.
Not only that, but we know how evolution works. That's more than we can say for gravity. Therefore I trust evolution more than gravity.
We only ever got as far as we have as a species by cooperating. My calling for these last few years has been to exercise people's understanding of evolutionary principles.
Cooperative species and individuals ARE the fittest and we have a choice.
When I look at nature I am awed by what evolution can do. I am humbled that we are here by the merest accident. I am inspired by the works of man in his rage against being tossed about by nature and his evolutionary heritage. I am moved by his acts of giving which often cost his life or more. Who could not?
A kilogram of programmable nanobots can lower the certainty of both death AND taxes.
Challenge: Write a program that mimics RMNS for a population in which the population DOES NOT EVOLVE.
*no points for cheating. (Using a random as your criteria, killing the population, sterilizing the population, making mutation rate artificially and ridiculously high)
Take as much time as you need. Heck I'll give you a bonus head start. On the video "Evolution in Realtime" video there's a link to the source code and the interpreter used.

Men used to think fire was the tool of the gods. But the charred meat from forest fires was so tasty and easy to eat that one particularly adventurous (some would say stupid or foolish) person went looking for fires in order to grab a hold of the tool of the gods and make all their meat taste so well. That was the first and biggest change to mankind since we learned we could kill by throwing stones from a distance. Raw meat takes a long time to chew and digest so we obtained more calories from fewer kills than before we used fire. This had many other advantages. It increased the time spent doing nothing in particular(daydreaming of gods and powers). It helped keep predators away. It gave illumination to the night. It motivated inventing ways to make fire on demand instead of traveling cross country hoping to find a burning stick.
The whiners said, Well if the children stepped in the fire, they would get burned, and it makes smoke that hurts our eyes and causes cancer, and the meat tastes funny when it is scorched and if it burns out of control it will destroy the forest and savanna and kill the game and we'll starve. And light in the darkness is unnatural.
So the cave people banished him and did with out fire.
The people in the next valley over said, say, that's a great idea, when we have the fire, we are not sickened by the meat, and we require less skins to stay warm, and we have time to share knowledge of where the meat is as we sit in comfort around the fire. and after three winters they grew stronger and healthier and more of their babies survived and they had more time to make better flint tools.
And they went over to the next valley and kicked the cave people's ass.
But they left one baby girl alive, and her mitochondrial RNA can be found in the cells of every Luddite and technology averse human alive.
