On 8 January 2012, 280hp Walker railmotor 91RM returned to service on the Daylesford Spa Country Railway following a 6 month overhaul and repaint.
A feature of the new paint job is the "Dayglo Orange" belt rail and wings on each end. This little known variation on the classic VR livery was used by the Victorian Railways in the mid 1960's.
This video features shots of 91RM at Daylesford railway station and in action along the line to Musk. For more information about the DSCR, please visit http://www.dscr.c...

On 30 December 2001 at the Daylesford Spa Country Railway, 280hp Walker 91RM failed and DERM 63RM ran the following service to Bullarto with 26MT. This is one of the few times that both 63RM and 26MT were used together in regular service at the DSCR.
Since this video was taken, 63RM has been fully overhauled and is now painted in the 1930's livery with silver stripes on the ends. Unfortunately 26MT deteriorated due to weather exposure until a grant was received for construction of a rolling stock storage shed in 2010. This historic vehicle was moved undercover in June 2011 and is now in storage pending overhaul.
The DSCR were also impacted by the bushfires in February 2009. Although the line was rebuilt back to Musk in 2010, as at September 2011, the section to Bullarto is still out of service pending funding.
The Daylesford Spa Country Railway is a volunteer run organisation and accredited museum specialising in rail motors and trolleys of the Victorian Railways. For more info please visit http://www.dscr.c...

Riding the DERM from Musk to Daylesford.
Brief History Of The Class. In 1928 the Victorian Railways expanded their fleet of railmotors with more powerful units designed by the Electro-Motive Company, USA. These were able to haul a substantial trailer and even some goods wagons. Ten of these units entered service between 1928 and 1931, numbered 55RM to 64RM. They were powered by a single petrol engine of 220hp driving a generator that supplied power to the electric motors on the axles of the power bogie. Officially they were known as Petrol Electric Rail Motors, but they were also known as P.E.R.Ms or P.Es.
In the 1930s these cars were running to places such as Geelong, Yarram, Lancefield, Hopetoun, Maffra and the branchlines radiating out of Bendigo. At the height of the Great Depression between 1931 and 1936 they ran the service between Woodend and Daylesford.
In the early 1950s the petrol engines were replaced by two GM diesels and they became universally known as D.E.R.Ms. They continued to run branchline services to places like Mansfield until these lines closed in the 1970s. After this they were often found on services to Sunbury, Bacchus Marsh and Seymour. They were gradually withdrawn through the 1980s with the last in 1991, 60 years after entering service.
