Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio (DCNEO), a non profit 501 (c)(3) organization, works to improve the educational experience of children through our program, Dancing Classrooms (DC). DC is a 10 week - 20 session residency program for 5th and 8th grade children. The program in incorporated into the school day curriculum and a required part of the curriculum for each child in the designated grade.
DC is not a dancing program; it's a social development program that utilizes ballroom dancing as a tool to generate social change in the participants and overall school culture.
DC has a fifteen year history for improving the education of children that began in the public schools of New York City in 1994 by Pierre Dulaine. Following the success of the program's hit documentary, Mad Hot Ballroom (2005) and the feature film, Take the Lead (2006) a National Network providing the program was born. Building on the groundbreaking work of Pierre Dulaine, the DC program was brought to Northeast Ohio by Jo Jo Graham, a Teaching Artist protege of Mr. Dulaine in NYC (and a Northeast Ohio native). DCNEO was established in 2008.
